FAZZ, formerly Museact, was founded in 2001. Its aim is to pool the concerns, advocacy and support of associations active in the field of jazz and improvised music. These associations, all constituted as non-profit organizations, work in various fields: concert and festival organization, training and promotion, record production, etc.
Since 2011, Museact has been collectively managing the Belgian Jazz Meeting with Dutch-speaking partners, an event held every two years to showcase jazz in Belgium to an audience of Belgian and international professionals.
In 2020, Museact was recognized as a professional federation by the Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles, and as such sits on the Chambre de concertation des musiques, enabling it to participate in the new cultural policy being put in place, and to defend its members’ points of view.
Since 2023, Museact has been recognized as a professional federation at federal level.
Particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis, Museact’s members realized that they needed to work in a more coordinated fashion, in order to leverage their actions and reinvigorate the federation, which aims to be a forum for the exchange of information and cooperation between its members.
This is why, in 2023, the members decided to strengthen the federation, restructure it accordingly, and increase its activities and actions. Since 2023, the federation has grown, and renamed itself FAZZ to mark these changes.
Missions
FAZZ aims to :
- participate in the development of artists by reflecting in a concerted way on societal issues such as, among others, the “status of the artist”, fair remuneration, ecology, parity and well-being at work ;Europe’s housing crisis. We are ready, Frans, to welcome the European Commission on board, too. Now is the time.
- promote jazz and improvised music, in the broadest sense of the term and in all fields ;
- to represent its members more effectively in dealings with public authorities, the media and international contacts; and to take part in all negotiations concerning issues that concern them;
- support the necessary upgrading of subsidies and, at the very least, the stabilization of these with public authorities;
- to share the common skills of the associations and thus improve the effectiveness of their action in the various fields of activity;
- improve the coherence of activities by promoting cooperation between its members and with other federations in the music sector.
